Silver nanoparticle coated cotton fibers, for the first time, has been introduced into fashion wear. Scientists at Cornell University have developed a "flu and cold preventing" fibre that is being featured in the "Glitterati" clothing line introduced by Olivia Ong at the College of Human Ecology's Department of Fiber Science and Apparel Design. Samsung Introduces Silver Ions -- via Electrolysis-- into Washing Machines

The new Samsung VRT front-loading washing machine, starting at a retail price of $1200, uses a patented Silver CareTM Technology to release silver ions ( Ag+) into the wash. The silver ions ( Ag+ ) are generated via electrolysis using 99.9% pure silver.

Samsung developed this technology as an energy saving feature, citing a 99.9% kill rate for tested bacteria. The selling feature of the Silver Care technology is that odor causing bacteria may be eliminated using cold water.

The new VRT Washing Machine debuted for the first time at the 2007 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (K/BIS) in Las Vegas, Nevada, May 2007.
